Le Vent du Nord to play the Uxbridge Music Hall

Canadian Folk Music Awards Ensemble of the Year for 2010 – Le Vent du Nord to play the Uxbridge Music Hall, 16 Main Street South, Uxbridge, Ontario on Tuesday, March 8, 2011, 8:30 pm.

As March 8th is Shrove Tuesday, the traditional Mardi Gras night, we expect a heckuva pre-Lenten party! Mardi Gras beads for all! Blow the winter blues away with the North Wind!

Internationally acclaimed Quebecois ensemble, Le Vent du Nord, (the North Wind) bring their infectious blend of traditional roots music and original compositions to the Uxbridge Music Hall for one night only on March 8, 2011.

The quartet, comprised of Nicolas Boulerice, Olivier Demers, Simon Beaudry and Rejean Brunet, combine tight harmonies with a variety of instruments (hurdy-gurdy, guitar, accordions, fiddle, piano, bouzouki) for an unforgettable performance.

Meshing traditional Quebecois/Acadian music with a touch of the Celtic, a little New Orleans and the driving beat of Demers’ foot percussion, Le Vent du Nord delivers a non-stop, all-age friendly, joyous performance. While they sing in French, explanations are provided in English; but it doesn’t matter since their performance transcends language barriers – meaning you don’t have to understand it to enjoy it, although it may just make you want to rush out and take French lessons.

Since its inception in 2002, Le Vent du Nord has exploded onto the folk music scene.
Their first album “Maudite moisson!” was awarded the 2004 JUNO for traditional album of the year. Their second album “ Les amants du Saint-Laurent” was chosen the 2005 album of the year by the Canadian Folk Music Awards while the band was named North American Traditional Artist of the year in Austin, Texas. They were also named Show of the Year by the American radio-concert series “Bound for Glory”. Most recently they were named Ensemble of the Year 2010 by the Canadian Folk Music Awards. Two days following the Music Hall concert, Le Vent will be playing with the Toronto Symphony at Roy Thomson Hall as a part of their “New Creations Festival” before leaving on an extended tour of France and the U.K.

Tickets are $20 advance/$25 at the door. Tickets are available at the Blue Heron and Presents, Presents, Presents or by calling 905-852-4120 or online at www.promonium.tv/LeVentDuNord.html.

Net proceeds of the concert will go to the Uxbridge Music Scholarship Trust.
