Come see amazing paintings, sculpture, photography, pottery, jewellery, woodcraft and native art.

Over 30 artists from Hamilton to Bowmanville, as well as local artists, have been selected. Stroll around the lush meadow, enjoy food prepared by The Briars’ chefs, and enter the draw for an original painting of The Red Barn Theatre.

Although the Georgina area lost an historical landmark, The Red Barn Theatre, this past spring, The Briars Resort next door is still hosting the 8th annual Purple Turtle Art Festival.  The draw prize chosen for this year’s exciting show is an orginial watercolour painting by Gail Young, one of the show’s committee.

LAKE SCUGOG SPRING STUDIO TOUR
May 1 & 2, 2010

Submission Deadline – September 4, 2009

Call for Entry application forms are now available for the 2010 Lake Scugog
Spring Studio Tour (LSSST). Artists in all media are invited to apply – visual arts,
fibre, clay, glass, wood, metal and mixed media.

This will be the eleventh year that the Tour will enable area artists to open their
doors to the public and allow visitors a glimpse of the creative process and
technical skill behind the finished work on display.

Some of Scugog’s finest artistic talent will exhibit their work, either in their own
studio or as a guest with another artist. The LSSST also welcomes guest artists
from outside Scugog, enhancing and energizing the tour for both participants and
visitors. Once again, the Tour will be juried, and artists are invited to submit a
complete application for consideration.

The Lake Scugog Spring Studio Tour has gained recognition as an outstanding
tour, not to be missed by visitors from the surrounding areas as well as further
afield from the Greater Toronto Area. Many come to meet the artists in their
home studios and also to enjoy a meal or shop in Port Perry.

Deadline for submission is September 4, 2009. For more information on the
LSSST, contact Diane Beach, 705-786-1897 or email: drbeach@sympatico.ca
The application is also available on the web site: www.scugogstudiotour.ca and

Anne

Maud’s Thespians present

ANNE

by Paul Ledoux
at the Historic Leaskdale Church

Imagine watching a dramatic re-creation of Lucy Maud Montgomery’s best-loved story while sitting in the very church (or even the very pew) occupied by the author herself, every Sunday morning for 15 years!

That will be your experience this June when you come to Leaskdale for Paul Ledoux’ hilarious but moving interpretation of Anne of Green Gables, performed in the sanctuary of the Historic Church where Maud’s husband, Ewan MacDonald, was the pastor from 1911 to 1926, and where Maud herself played a leading role in church affairs (including, locals say, directing a troupe of young Sunday School players).

All of your favourite Anne scenes are here: Anne & Matthew at the station, Anne’s apology to Rachel Lynde, Anne & Diana’s tea party, the saving of Minnie Mae, Anne as the Lady of Shallott, brought to life by an experienced and talented cast. With beautiful period costumes and imaginative staging which transforms the church sanctuary into a multitude of Avonlea scenes, you will find yourself transported easily into the magical world of Anne Shirley, one of the world’s favourite literary characters.

It’s a small country church, so seats are limited. Book your tickets now for this intimate encounter with Anne of Green Gables.

June 12, 13, 18, 19, 20 at 7.30 pm
June 13, 14, 20 at 2 pm

Tickets are available at Blue Heron Books and at Leaskdale Country Store, or email me and I’ll save tickets for you at the door.
