A History of the Phonograph and Recorded Sound

Mike Bryan and Keith Wright of the Canadian Antique Phonograph Society will give an entertaining presentation with illustrations and demonstrations of recorded sound from the early 1900s to the 1950s. Special Exhibit at the Uxbridge Historical Centre: The Dowling Scrolls

Visit the rare and remarkable Dowling Scrolls, an over 400-foot-long and 7-foot high painted canvas featuring biblical scenes and ancient scenes and cities, spread over 4 scrolls. This amazing work of art, rarely seen on public display, was painted by Uxbridge’s Reverend James Dowling in the 1870s. The Dowling Scrolls will be on display at the Museum September 14, 15, 27, & 28. This special exhibit is included with regular admission and includes a tour of the museum’s 10 heritage buildings and new travelling exhibit. ‘Freemasonry: A History Hidden in Plain Sight’. The museum is located at 7239 Concession Rd. 6, just north of Brock Street and open for tours Wednesday to Sunday and holidays from 10am to 4pm. Outdoor Art Workshop for Youth at the Uxbridge Historical Centre

Youth (ages 10-14) can sign up for this free Culture Days event taking place at Uxbridge Historical Centre, Sun., September 29 from 10am-2pm. Bring your art supplies and learn the technique of creating art “en plein air” (in the open air) from two prominent local artists. Participants will be inspired by the vibrant, early Fall colours of our scenic view on Quaker Hill and the beautiful grounds and buildings of the Museum. At the end of the workshop, participants will host an art show for family and friends and bring home their new works of art. Some art supplies are available for use, but if you have your own supplies you are encouraged to bring them. Contact the Museum to pre-register. 2013 marks the third year for the Sharon Art Show, held at the Sharon Temple National Historic Site. The Sharon Temple, completed in 1832, is the centerpiece of this site; nine historic buildings in a scenic park setting.
Emerging and established Canadian artists will be displaying and selling their works: Paintings in various mediums, wood, glass, jewellery, pottery and photography are some of the different art forms being shown. Refreshments will be available for purchase.

Our new travelling exhibit, ‘Freemasonry: A History Hidden in Plain Sight’, relates the story of Freemasonry and its influence on our society today. Learn about the history of Freemasonry in Uxbridge Township. Masons from Uxbridge’s Zeredatha Lodge have partnered with the museum to bring this unique exhibit to Uxbridge.
