Wine Tasting & Live Art Auction

The Uxbridge Cottage Hospital Auxiliary is hosting a Wine Tasting & Live Art Auction event on October 19th, 2011 7.00pm, with the art auction starting at 8.30pm at Wyndance Golf Club. During the evening attendee’s will get to taste various wine’s and sample food pairings provided by local restaurants, also a Live Art Auction will take place featuring many artists from within the Uxbridge community. All proceeds will go to the Uxbridge Cottage Hospital.

Rug Hooking Workshop

Beginner primitive rug hooking workshop with Beatrice Grant, instructor with the Rittermere-Hurst-Field rug hooking studio. Cost is $60, all supplies included (bring sharp scissors). Take home a complete craft. Bring a lunch, beverages supplied. Pre-registration and payment required. Space is limited. Wholeness exhibit

Wholeness: An exhibit of tapestries and related fibre work by Line Dufour.

The exhibit takes place in The Gibson Centre Gallery, from September 1st to the 26th, 2011.

Join us for the opening on Sunday, September 11th, from 2:00 to 5:00 pm. The opening will also be the official launch of the Community Threads project funded by the Ontario Arts Council.

The project is encouraging the public to join the Nottawasaga Handweavers and Spinners in the weaving of twelve tapestries which were created by the guild members in collaboration with Line Dufour depicting the cultural and historical aspects of NTT. Annual Stouffville Studio Tour

The 11th Annual Stouffville Studio Tour is an event that you don’t want to miss, October 15th and 16th, 2011 – 10AM to 5PM both days. The bonus of our studio tour is the drive through the countryside in the full blazing colours of autumn.

A vast selection of painting media is represented on our Tour including acrylic, encaustic, oil, Sumi-e and watercolours. We also have graphite drawings, glass works, jewellery, metal and stone sculptures, pastels, photography, pottery, totems, wood block printing, and wood turning. There is something for everyone!

Our Tour has 36 artists participating in 23 local venues. We are proud to have a growing number of visitors returning year after year and they continue to tell us that we have “one of the best studio tours” they have ever attended. And we’ll even offer you a chance to win a $200.00 voucher to be used towards the purchase of art from any of our members!

This is a self guided tour; there is no pressure to buy, free admission. We welcome browsing.

Sunday on the Porch series

PineRidge Arts Council’s Sunday on the Porch series at the SilverStone Gallery in Pickering.

In addition to original artwork on display by over 23 PRAC member artists we have been featuring one on the porch on Sunday afternoons.

“A History of Play: An Exhibition of Vintage Toys and Collectables”

An exhibition for young and young-at-heart alike, this display of playthings and pastimes illuminates a history that only toys can tell. This collection of over 100 items such as dolls, games, and cast iron and tin toys offers a new perspective of our community’s heritage. Join us—whatever your age—and discover Uxbridge’s “History of Play” at this unique exhibition. Thank you to the Uxbridge community who generously loaned items from their personal collections for this display.

“40th Annual Heritage Days”

Come out and celebrate Uxbridge’s unique heritage and history at the Uxbridge-Scott Historical Society’s 40th Annual Heritage Days! This year, our theme is “Hands-On History,” featuring pioneer games, races, crafts, and fun for the whole family! Each day at 10:30am a 4H Lawn Tractor Pull will be held. Bring a camera and get your photo taken on a carriage from the movie “Road to Avonlea.” Other highlights include: steam threshing, vintage cars and tractors, a miniature railway, model ships, displays and demonstrations, musical entertainment, pies, corn on the cob, and a BBQ!

Adults $10 (children free with adult), free parking.

“Through the Looking Glass With Alice”

Journey to Wonderland as you step back in time to the year 1865 and celebrate the timeless classic novel by Lewis Carroll. Come and play croquet on the lawn with the Queen of Hearts, Mad Hatter, and Alice. This family event will feature a variety of themed activities, and all ages will love playing in our Queen of Hearts Games area. View a display of rare and collector’s editions of Alice in Wonderland books, memorabilia, and art. This event is the perfect way to spend an autumn day!
