May 5 & 6, 2012
The artists of the Lake Scugog Spring Studio Tour invite local and guest artists to participate in our 13th Annual Tour on the weekend May 5th & 6th 2012 at studios in the Township of Scugog. The picturesque town of Port Perry is our central location situated one hour Northeast of Toronto.
Artists in all media are invited to apply for jurying – fibre, clay, glass, wood, metal, photography, paintings, mixed media and more.
Our Tour is a free, self-guided journey that is held on the first weekend in May each year. Using an illustrated brochure with map to guide them, visitors drive around the Township to our home studios as spring reawakens the landscape.
Visitors can ask questions and get to know us on our home turf. They can not only acquire memorable art pieces but also have a glimpse of the ‘artist’s life.’
Every September, 30 to 40 artists are selected by jury and placed at about 20 studio sites.
From September to May, the artists meet monthly to orchestrate a symphony of tasks that make the tour successful. The whole effort is sustainable, because it is run as an artists’ co-operative; everyone has a job to do.
The results of all this effort are truly remarkable, as our many new and repeat visitors will attest. They come from a wide area encompassing Southern, Central and Eastern Ontario.

For over a quarter century artists in the north-west corner of Durham Region have hosted a successful studio tour in their community. The Uxbridge Studio Tour has featured prominent artists such as Ron Baird, Ann Cummings, Edward Falkenberg, Judith and Viktor Tinkl, just to name a few. This annual open doors arts festival unfastens the studio gates of over 26 sites (one for every year the Tour has existed). This group exhibition will give a common exhibition ground to 34 artists who are involved with this collective showcase of creativity in the area, all under the one roof of Station Gallery.
Stellar Living 2011 is the fourth installment of Mercer Union’s Living exhibition and auction series. For this event, we have asked Canadian and international creators — the brightest minds in their fields — to share their insights and provide new models for how we live. The unique works of art and design they have created will be on view in our galleries leading up to the gala auction. Proceeds of this fund-raising event will support Mercer Union’s programming and exhibitions in 2011-2012.

Canadian Folk Music Awards Ensemble of the Year for 2010 – Le Vent du Nord to play the Uxbridge Music Hall, 16 Main Street South, Uxbridge, Ontario on Tuesday, March 8, 2011, 8:30 pm.
As March 8th is Shrove Tuesday, the traditional Mardi Gras night, we expect a heckuva pre-Lenten party! Mardi Gras beads for all! Blow the winter blues away with the North Wind!
Internationally acclaimed Quebecois ensemble, Le Vent du Nord, (the North Wind) bring their infectious blend of traditional roots music and original compositions to the Uxbridge Music Hall for one night only on March 8, 2011.
The quartet, comprised of Nicolas Boulerice, Olivier Demers, Simon Beaudry and Rejean Brunet, combine tight harmonies with a variety of instruments (hurdy-gurdy, guitar, accordions, fiddle, piano, bouzouki) for an unforgettable performance.
Meshing traditional Quebecois/Acadian music with a touch of the Celtic, a little New Orleans and the driving beat of Demers’ foot percussion, Le Vent du Nord delivers a non-stop, all-age friendly, joyous performance. While they sing in French, explanations are provided in English; but it doesn’t matter since their performance transcends language barriers – meaning you don’t have to understand it to enjoy it, although it may just make you want to rush out and take French lessons.
Since its inception in 2002, Le Vent du Nord has exploded onto the folk music scene.
Their first album “Maudite moisson!” was awarded the 2004 JUNO for traditional album of the year. Their second album “ Les amants du Saint-Laurent” was chosen the 2005 album of the year by the Canadian Folk Music Awards while the band was named North American Traditional Artist of the year in Austin, Texas. They were also named Show of the Year by the American radio-concert series “Bound for Glory”. Most recently they were named Ensemble of the Year 2010 by the Canadian Folk Music Awards. Two days following the Music Hall concert, Le Vent will be playing with the Toronto Symphony at Roy Thomson Hall as a part of their “New Creations Festival” before leaving on an extended tour of France and the U.K.
Tickets are $20 advance/$25 at the door. Tickets are available at the Blue Heron and Presents, Presents, Presents or by calling 905-852-4120 or online at www.promonium.tv/LeVentDuNord.html.
Net proceeds of the concert will go to the Uxbridge Music Scholarship Trust.
