The CCM Story

Guest Author and Historian John McKenty
presents ‘Canada Cycle and Motor: The CCM Story’

Uxbrige HIstorical Centre Schoolhouse, 7239 Concession Rd. 6, Uxbridge
May 23, 2013 7 pm

Join us to hear author and historian John McKenty, a retired educator and Perth resident, relate the history of cycling and the CCM Company, a topic he wrote about in his book Canada Cycle & Motor: The CCM Story. “With its skates in winter & bikes in summer, CCM was as much a part of the Canadian psyche as the seasons themselves. The CCM Story traces the company’s history from its formation in 1899 until its demise in 1983. While its story brings together some of Canada’s most prominent businessmen, legendary hockey figures and little-known hoodlums, in the end, it is those who worked the factory floor that are called upon to try and save the company.” Copies of John’s book will be available for purchase. All are welcome to attend. Light refreshments will be available. Admission by donation.

Celtic Traditions

Starts: May 04, 2013 @ 7:30pm
Address: St. Andrews Presbyterian Church
143 Main Street Markham North, Markham

This spring we explore the folk music traditions that have emerged from ancient western European cultures and represent a huge choral repertoire. Many of these songs and airs have been adopted wholeheartedly in North America. Celtic music is now a staple, particularly on Canada’s east coast, where it’s influence is heard everywhere at concerts, céilidhs and impromptue gatherings in peoples homes.

We will be joined by special guest artists Chalk Lake Strings, from the Claremont area, directed by Jane Plewman

Adults $20. Seniors and Students $15. Children 12 and under free.
Call 905.294.8687 to reserve your tickets.

Complimentary refreshments will be served after the concert
