Amadeus

amadeus55x375_upsnew.jpgA play by Peter Shaffer
Directed by Nancy Minden
Produced by John Carroll, Katie Fockler, and Rita Irwin

March 22, 23, 24, 29, 30, & 31 at 7:30 p.m.
Sunday matinee March 25 at 3:00 p.m.

Set amidst the opulence and splendour of 18th century Vienna, Peter Shaffer’s profound, thrilling, and sometimes wickedly funny play is a story of one man’s tormented soul and it’s affect on others. Antonio Salieri is exalted as the most famous composer in a city of musicians. Envy torments him when he is confronted by the young genius – Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Brutally threatened by the limitations of his own talent and believing God to have abandoned him, Salieri embarks on a desperate course of action. Shaffer uses rage, comedy, lust, affection and fear, accompanied by a magnificent musical score to tell his version of the story of Amadeus and Salieri.

Beatrix Potter Film

misspotter.jpgArt Film Screening “Miss Potter” February 24th and 25th at 4:00 pm

Beatrix Potter (Renée Zellweger) was a literary phenomenon of the early 20th Century.

At a time when most young women of her class aimed only to make a good marriage, Beatrix became an iconic figure, swimming quietly, but with great fortitude against the tide.

She created a series of books and characters that are as beloved today as they were a hundred years ago; since their publication they have never been out of print. She was also a distinguished painter and–had she been a man–her botanical drawings would have been snapped up by the Royal Horticultural Society at Kew Gardens.

In addition, by the time she died in 1943, Beatrix Potter had purchased vast swathes of the Lake District that she left to the then fledgling British Conservation Trust. That so much of this glorious countryside that inspired her, remains as it was in Beatrix Potter’s day for others to enjoy, is her bequest to the nation.

This is her story….

Drama, rated G, 105 minutes long

Cast: Renée Zellweger, Ewan McGregor, Emily Watson, Barbara Flynn, Bill Paterson, Matyelok Gibbs, Lloyd Owen

All tickets are $8.00 including taxes and are available at the Roxy Box Office on the days of the screenings.
