The Election at Uxbridge Secondary School
The Uxbridge Secondary School Dramatic Arts Department is proud to present…
By Don Zolidis
With all the drama of the longest Federal Election Campaign in Canadian history still fresh in our minds and the string of real-life attack ads bordering on the absurd still ringing in our ears, the U.S.S. Players bring you a hilarious and timely satire on the contemporary political scene that will not only make you laugh but also question what really drives our voting decisions.
After an embattled student body president resigns in disgrace, Mark Davenport figures he will cruise to victory and pad his University application in the special election that follows. After all, his only opponent is nerdy Christy Martin, who wants to eliminate Rugby and serve vegetarian food in the cafeteria. But when a mysterious Political Action Committee gives her an unlimited budget, an extreme makeover and a monopoly on the media, things start to get very ugly. Mark must face total annihilation or accept the services of a slick professional campaign manager with questionable ethics and the financial backing of shadowy corporations. In this hysterical parody of the modern electoral process there can be only one winner, either Mark’s conscience or his desire for victory at all costs.
Filled with humour and biting satirical commentary, The Election is a fun and thought-provoking comedy that will appeal to all. Come out to support the dedicated students of Uxbridge Secondary School and challenge your notion of what it really means to vote. Shows are Jan 19th, 20th, 21st, 22nd & 23rd 2016.
