The Uxbridge 25 on 25 Street Party has many exciting events. Find them all listed below, divided into those events on the street –“Meet the Street” – and those taking place in the Brock Street stores – “Explore the Stores”. All are numbered and those numbers relate to their map position
MEET THE STREET EVENTS
1. PLEIN AIR ARTISTS
Local plein air artist John Pryce will be joined by other artists, as they capture the beauty of downtown Uxbridge in paint for this wonderful art event. All paintings will be available for sale as they complete them on-site. All day event.
2. BLANK CANVAS
Blank Canvas – join in and try your hand at plein air painting with Hanneke Koonstra and Jody Dales.
3. MUSICAL SCULPTURE
Xylophone Bells – The xylophones are made from recycled propane tanks by artist, Jean Pierre Schoss. They make excellent stools and are virtually indestructible! More importantly, they resonate with soft, lyrical tones. A gentle hit with a baton made from Indian rubber balls results in big soft notes lifting off the drum and resonating all around you. All ages from 1 year olds to 90 year olds have played the xylophones. No skill seems to be needed. Musicians have collected them and written music to them; they have been called drums, xylophone and bells.
“Hand, Foot or Paw”- Local life casting artist Dana Della Vedova will make a cast of your Hand, Foot, or Paw. It will be based on a sign-up sheet and the first twenty-five will be cast; if time permits a second group of twenty-five will be cast in the afternoon. The MyCast booth will be setup all day. Special, much-reduced Street Party price of $20!
5. PORTRAIT OF THE ARTIST; AS A RETIRED MAN
Portrait Of The Artist As A Retired Man… Retirement? – Withdrawal from your position or occupation? ……. the idea of an artist retiring is absurd!! Viktor Tinkl Retired? Well he is working – being the model. Gather around and sketch or photograph The Artist as a Retired Man.
6. AROMATHERAPY EXPERIENCE
The Aromatherapy experience – Awaken your senses and experience the power of essential oils. This event is sponsored by Elemi Organics and invites you to test your Sense of Smell with a free game of “Match the Scent” where participants will match the essential oil to the plant, fruit, wood, flower etc. The winner of each round is the one who matches the most correctly. Prizes! All day event; free
7. KINETIC METAL
Kinetic Metal. Kinetic Metal Sculpture – Big heavy chunks of steel forged into a gravity-defying contraption by local blacksmith Mark Puigmarti. All day demo; Free.
8. MAKE A MASTHEAD CONTEST
Kids of all ages will have a chance to design the front cover of Uxbridge Town Talk’s November issue! Using crayons, pastels, pencil crayons, markers and ink, come draw what you love most about our town. The winning piece of artwork will be printed on our 5,000 issues next month. 9. THE BIG MIDDLE EAST LABYRINTH
The Big Middle East Labyrinth painting made for barefooted meditation walking Artist: Bruce Parsons, Painter, Muralist, Professor Emeritus, Visual Arts, York U, Toronto
Imagine the Middle-East Peace Railroad (MEPR) connecting Israel and Palestine with Lebanon; Jordan; Egypt; Syria and Saudi Arabia linking the Red sea with the Mediterranean. See if you can locate the cities of Beirut, Damascus, Tel Aviv, Gaza, Jerusalem, Ram Allah, Hevron, Dimona, Amman, Cairo and Mecca. All day event; Free
10. WILD SOUNDS SOUND EXPERIMENTS
Wild sounds from everyday objects with Gary Renaud With just a little tweaking, and a different approach, the strangest things produce amazing sounds… don’t miss the great Coat Hanger Bells. All day event; free.
Caricaturist – great caricaturist Rob Westall, will be drawing portraits on the street all day – All day event; $10 for a black and white drawing, $15 for full colour beauty!
12. FUN WITH CLAY& MUSICAL INSTRUMENT WORKSHOPS
Hands On Workshops Fun with clay!
Come on out and get your clothes dirty – try throwing a pot on the wheel – you know you’ve always wanted to! Workshop from 11:00am – 2pm; free
Instrumental Recycling! Come to the Youth Centre with your containers (or use ours) and make a funky noisemaker! Workshop from 2pm – 3:30pm; free
13. SPEAKER’S CORNER
Speaker’s Corner – Have you got something you feel strongly about? Do you want to rage against the machine? Are you passionate about a cause? Would you like an opportunity to get up on a soapbox and share your views with the people of Uxbridge? The Speaker’s Corner will take place throughout the day, alternating with other scheduled events. There is a 3-5 minute time limit for each speaker. P.S. Politicians and crackpots especially welcome.
Mayor Bob Shepherd and Mayoralty candidate Gerri Lynn O’Connor will square off at the Speaker’s Corner at 3:30. Come with your questions.

Poets…– On the street – on the stage – off the page – on your feet – hear them sweet – spoken words – have you heard – it’s for free – 1, 2, 3 on the clock – 1, 2, 3 on the block – poets wham – shout the slam – ‘cause we’re free – shout the slam – ‘cause you’re free – BE THERE WITH US! 1pm; 2pm; 3pm
…And Musical Storytelling, with Heather Whaley. Not just for kids, Heather will be telling stories with a musical component, for kids and for adults throughout the day. Come and be transported and entranced by one of Ontario’s finest. Adult story reading at 12:30 pm and the children’s storytelling at 4pm
14. A RIVER RUNS THROUGH IT CHALK DRAWING & DOUSING
A River Runs Through It – a large scale chalk drawing by Fly Freeman revealing the course of the hidden Uxbridge Brook as it flows under the streets. Join in the drawing! All day event; Free.
15. TEMPORARY TATTOOS
Decorate your arms with taste and style with temporary tattoos from the guys at Body Art. 11am – 4pm. Pay as you feel.
16. THE TRASH TALKER
The Trash Talker “Garbage in, Garbage Out?” What has this garbage can got to say for itself? – Strike up a conversation with the most interesting trashcan on the street. All day event; free
17. FOSTER YOUR LOCAL MONUMENTS
This beautiful model of the Foster Monument is almost as lovely as the real thing. Find out more about this wonderful local treasure. All day event. Free
18. TILE INSTALLATION
The Infinite Variety Tile Installation: Local artist Judith Tinkl with a little help from mathematician Roger Penrose uses three different triangles to make sense and beauty and infinite variation, and you get to explore these non-periodic patterns up and down the sidewalk all day too! All day event; Free.
19. EDIBLE SCULPTURE
All 5 of your senses will be tingling when you see, touch, taste, smell and yes…hear! the delightful and yummy creations by Joanne of Truly Scrumptious Desserts. All day – free tastings, demos, create your own, and lots of yummy delights for purchase at the station and at sponsor Sugar FX store.
Decorate your own cupcake (and eat it!) with Suzy from Cutie Pies and Cakes

20. IT’S A MUGS GAME WITH CYNTHIA CUPPLES
Cynthia Cupples – Paint Your Own Ceramic Workshop – Choose a travel mug, bowl, lotion dispenser, or ornaments, paint your own design, pick it up later at Cynthia’s studio or at a location in Uxbridge when it has been fired. All day event; $15/25 each piece
21. YVONNE MEISSNER THUMBS & HANDS ARE BRUSHES
Thumbs and hands are the brushes – with local artist Yvonne Meissner. Touch and see! – Passing kids can contribute to one large canvas using their prints, names, and perhaps make their own artworks to take home using various collage materials. All day event; free.
22. REGENERATION AKA TRUNK-ATED TREE
Regeneration (a.k.a. Trunk-ated Tree). Wynn Walters – Who says trees have to be green? . . . or grow normally? . . . or that they can’t be weird? Here’s one that really wants to be different, sprouting from a parent tree that’s really cut up about something.
23. WATCH FOR FLASH KNITTERS!
Flash Knitting. The town knitters are ‘on the lam’ getting outdoors with their knitting and creating garments for the street…All day event; Free
We have so much talent in Uxbridge, it’s spilling out onto the streets! Matt Gunn sings his own work, on the Speaker’s Corner stage at 11:30 and 1:30. Rick Hannah and Larry Barnett, also know as Now and Then, will join us at noon on the stage, and throughout the town all day. The pride of Udora, Magoo, will take the stage at 2:30 and you can watch Magoo later in the day at the Parade of Giants.
See if you can spot Whitney Ross-Barris strolling around town singing her favourite songs.
25. FIVE CHEFS/ FIVE FARMERS Taste of Uxbridge
5 Local culinary artists meet 5 Local farmers. A culinary revolution has taken place in our town, and five of our Culinary artists are forming teams with five of our amazing township farmers. Each team of artist and farmer will create a dish for you to sample.
12 noon to 2pm; pay what you choose as a donation to our Loaves and Fishes Food Bank.
Bonus event: Local MEAT MERCHANT meets LOCAL MEATS.
Local Meat Merchant meets Local Meat – Delicious local meats expertly prepared by our own local Meat Merchant barbecuing on the street.

Grand Finale – Diana Lopez-Soto and Puppets – The “Parade of Giants” is a moving art installation that aims to fill the senses of our audiences: Where have they come from? Crafted with our hands. Created in our minds. Join in on the puppet making workshops at:
